Tragus Size Guide

Finding your perfect tragus piercing size depends on a couple of factors:
- Your individual anatomy - everyone's ears are different so the diameter you need will be based on your skin thickness and ear shape. Unfortunately body jewellery isn't universal, so what works for one person may not necessarily work for you.
- Your piercing placement - a tragus is pierced where the surrounding cartilage is fairly thick so you may require a longer bar length.
Recommended Jewellery Sizes
- Gauge: 16g (1.2mm)
- Bar Length: 6mm - 8mm
- Inner Diameter: 5mm - 8mm
Cartilage Hoops
Tragus hoops normally range from 5mm to 8mm, depending on your anatomy and whether you prefer your hoop to be snug or loose fitting. In our experience, 6mm tends to be a good starting point. Most of our Cartilage Hoops are available in 16 gauge and 18 gauge with a range of inner diameters from 5mm to 8mm.
Cartilage Studs
As there is limited space at the back of a tragus piercing, a flat-back Cartilage Stud is perfect for this placement because it sits flush against the skin and takes up much less room than a ball-back. The most popular lengths are 6mm for thinner skin and 8mm for thicker skin.
It's usually a process of trial and error to find your perfect fit, however we always recommend visiting your local piercing studio who carried out your piercing as they will be able to measure your ear and offer some professional advice.
