Flat Helix Piercing Guide

Finding your perfect flat piercing size depends on a couple of factors:
- Your individual anatomy - everyones ears are different so the diameter you need will be based on your skin thickness and ear shape. Unfortunately body jewellery isn't universal, so what works for one person may not necessarily work for you.
- Your piercing placement - generally a flat piercing is made on the flattest part of the ear above the rook where the cartilage is fairly thick so you may require a longer bar length than expected.
Recommended Jewellery Sizes
- Gauge: 16g (1.2mm)
- Bar Length: 6mm - 8mm
Cartilage Studs
Flat piercings require a flat-back labret, it's not possible to wear a hoop in this piercing. The most commonly used lengths range from 6mm to 8mm. For a snug fit and to avoid snagging on hair we recommend 6mm length, however if you have thicker cartilage or prefer a bit more room, 8mm may be better suited to you. A flat helix piercing is the perfect placement to show off a statement cartilage stud, especially one with a dainty hanging charm. Our best-selling flat jewellery is the Lani Droplet Cartilage Stud and Vogue Cartilage Stud. If you prefer to upgrade your flat with a touch of luxury, our 14K Solid Gold Flat-Backs are guaranteed to make your piercing stand out!
It's usually a process of trial and error to find your perfect fit, however we always recommend visiting your local piercing studio who carried out your piercing as they will be able to measure your ear and offer some professional advice.
