Customs, Duties & Taxes
Why VAT & Import Duties Apply to EU Orders
After Brexit, shipments from the UK to EU countries now require VAT to be paid upon entry into your country. This means that EU customers are charged VAT directly upon delivery, similar to the process in other non-EU countries such as the USA.
In the UK, VAT is included in the price of our products, which we then remit to the UK government, also known as a VAT return. However, because EU customers are now subject to import duty, it’s no longer feasible for us to include VAT in the price at checkout. Instead, VAT is collected by customs authorities in your country when your order arrives.
In summary:
- UK Customers: VAT is included in the price at checkout, which we remit to the UK government.
- EU Customers: Prices are reduced by 20% at checkout, with VAT paid by the customer upon import in your country.
How We’re Making Pricing Fair for EU Customers
We understand that you wouldn't expect to pay more just because you are based in a different country. To help balance out the necessary charges, we’ve reduced our product prices by 20% at checkout for EU customers. This discount matches the 20% VAT you’ll pay when your parcel arrives in your country.
So while UK customers pay VAT included in their checkout price, EU customers see a reduced price at checkout but pay the VAT upon import instead. This way, both UK and EU customers ultimately pay the same total price.
Our Future Plans for EU Customers
We’re actively working on making this process even smoother by exploring an option for EU customers to pay VAT directly at checkout. However, this solution requires significant administrative updates, so we want to ensure it’s fully tested and reliable before implementing it.
In the meantime, please know that this approach is designed to help keep your costs consistent with our UK customers. We’re always here to answer questions and help with any part of the process.
