Rook Size Guide

Finding your perfect rook piercing size depends on a couple of factors:

  • Your individual anatomy - everyone's ears are different so the diameter you need will be based on your skin thickness and ear shape. Unfortunately body jewellery isn't universal, so what works for one person may not necessarily work for you.
  • Your piercing placement - generally a rook piercing is made around 5mm above the flat part of the rook cartilage, however some piercers may make it slighter higher or lower depending on your anatomy, so this can be the biggest factor to take into consideration when finding the perfect bar length or inner diameter for your individual piercing.

Recommended Jewellery Sizes
- Gauge: 16g (1.2mm)
- Bar Length: 6mm - 8mm
- Inner Diameter: 5mm - 8mm

Cartilage Hoops
Generally rook hoops range from 5mm to 8mm. Those with a rook pierced higher up may require a larger hoop. In our experience, 6mm tends to be a good starting point if you want the hoop to be comfortable but snug. Our Cartilage Hoops are available in standard 16 gauge or 18 gauge thickness with a range of inner diameters. We love adding a dainty Earring Charm to our hoop for a touch of sparkle - the Tiny Baguette Rook Hoop is one of our bestsellers!

Curved Barbells
Rook piercings require a Curved Barbell due to the way they are pierced. The barbell length you need will depend on your skin thickness. The lengths usually range from 6mm to 8mm. For a short and snug fit, we recommend a 6mm length, if you have thicker cartilage or prefer a bit more room between the ends of the barbell, 8mm may be better suited to you. We've also created 7mm barbells for those who need an in-between size.

It's usually a process of trial and error to find your perfect fit, however we always recommend visiting your local piercing studio who carried out your piercing as they will be able to measure your ear and offer some professional advice.
